Kyocera

The Kyocera Corporation is a multinational ceramics and electronics manufacturer that is located in Kyoto, Japan. The company was founded in 1959, and it has gone through massive changes throughout the past several decades. At first, the company specialized only in ceramic insulators designed for television picture tubes, but then it started to manufacture telecommunications equipment, systems for generating solar power, electronic components, cutting tools as well as various components for medical systems.

Brief History Of Kyocera

Twenty-three years after it was founded, the company name was changed from Kyoto Ceramic.Co to Kyocera Corporation (the current name of the company). The company started to diversify its range of products back in 1970, due to the high demand for semiconductor integrated circuits and for ceramic-bladed kitchen tools. In 1983, Kyocera Corporation acquired the well-known Yashica Company, and started to produce digital cameras and film until 2005, when the company decided to discontinue the production.

At the end of the 1980s, the company started to focus more on audio components, like cassette decks, CD players and receivers. Shortly after, Kyocera started to produce passive electronic equipment, like filters or ceramic chip capacitors. In 2010, the company launched its first smartphone, and one year later it bought a part of the TFT/LCD design business of Sony Corporation.

Products Manufactured By Kyocera

This multinational corporation is known for manufacturing a wide range of printers and multi-function devices that are sold throughout Asia, Africa, America and Europe. In the past the company manufactured satellite phones along with handsets, and now it specializes mainly in mobile phones for wireless carriers (which are widely distributed across Canada and the United States of America). Kyocera also produces mobile phones for various Japanese corporations, like Softbank or Willcom.

In addition to the products mentioned above, the company also manufactures solar modules and photovoltaic cells, given the high demand on the market for clean, environmentally-friendly energy.
